On the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, with a focus on the transfer business the north London club concluded in the recent window.

One topic of discussion on the video was Spurs defender Juan Foyth, after he completed a loan move to Villarreal recently. The Spanish side also reportedly have an option to buy the Argentinian international for €15 million (£13.7 million), and Gold suggests in the video that he feels the defender is unlikely to return to the north London club.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about Foyth during his video:

“Juan Foyth [has] gone to Villarreal on loan, he signed a new three-year contract, that was a little bit of a misnomer slightly, in that he’s gone out there with an option [to buy]; I think it’s £13.5 million that Villarreal can buy him for next summer, and if you saw Juan Foyth’s Instagram post, he’s essentially said goodbye – he thinks he’s going.

“Again, for me, a bit of a missed opportunity there. [Mauricio] Pochettino said he could be one of the best defenders in Europe. [It] hasn’t quite happened for him, but I still think [he has] an incredible amount of potential and I would have loved to have seen him in a defensive midfield role, I think he would have been great.”

TIF Thoughts…

Since joining from Estudiantes in 2017, Foyth has managed to make just 32 appearances for the senior side at Spurs, and last appeared in a competitive game in December of last year.

Do you think Foyth will come back to Spurs?

As Gold mentions, his Instagram post certainly doesn’t seem to suggest that he will be returning, so hopefully, he can prove himself with Villarreal and go on to fulfil some of the potential that both Gold and Pochettino clearly believe he has.
