The Athletic’s Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has recently discussed the Whites’ attackers Helder Costa and Pablo Hernandez.

So far this season, Costa has earned a 6.81/10 average rating which has made him the ninth-best performer in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad in the league (per WhoScored).

Meanwhile, Hernandez earned a weak 6.01/10 performance rating in his only appearance in the league this season making him their second-worst performer.

The Spaniard has made only one league appearance so far this season as he has been struggling with a groin problem (per Leeds Live) and he has not featured for the Whites since the opening day of the season.

In the latest episode of The Athletic’s Wolverhampton Wanderers podcast, The Molineux View, Hay discussed the two attackers and made a claim regarding Hernandez’s injury.

Who did Leeds sign from a La Liga side in September?

He said: “I think a lot of us feel that we’re starting to see a £15m winger [in Costa] in a way that, for parts of last season, we definitely weren’t.

“I think the jury was out on him come the midway point of last year, but he’s very much an established player under Bielsa.

“I feel at this stage, Pablo Hernandez has been out with a groin strain – we’ll find out from Bielsa later this week where he’s at, but he should be pretty close for this game.

“I think regardless of whether he’s back or not, I still expect Costa to hold his place on the right-hand side.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Hay had to say, he believes that Leeds are now beginning to see the value of their signing of Costa and he expects him to start against the Old Gold.

He also stated that while Hernandez will be “pretty close” to a return against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, a further update will be provided by Bielsa later in the week.

Who would you rather see start against Wolves?

With Costa having delivered good performances in the Premier League so far this season, it will be interesting to see who the Whites’ Argentine manager opts to start when Hernandez is fit.
