Speaking on a recent episode of his Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein commented on Leeds United’s reported interest in Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell.

A product of the Norwich youth system, making his first-team debut as a 19-year-old back in 2018, Cantwell has gone on to make 70 appearances for City, scoring eight goals and providing four assists along the way.

Who did Leeds sign from a La Liga side in September?

Following the club’s promotion to the Premier League after the 2018/19 season, the £18 million-rated 22-year-old performed admirably in his first-ever top-flight campaign, scoring six goals, providing two assists and averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.59/10 over his 37 Premier League appearances – ranking him as the club’s eighth-best performer in the league last term.

Over the course of last season, the midfielder was linked with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United, and after Norwich suffered relegation back to the Championship, the interest in the midfielder has not died down, with Leeds reported to have made an offer for the England U21 international in recent weeks.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s interest in Cantwell was one topic of discussion on a recent episode of the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, with the journalist providing some insight into the situation of the midfielder.

He said: “Todd Cantwell from Norwich – many Premier League clubs have shown interest in him. We’ve talked about him on this video before and in my Monday column.

“Norwich would want around £20 million for him. I think Fulham have held some level of talks, also Leeds United have been heavily linked – [he’s a] really good player and prospect.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, the journalist seems to be of the belief that Norwich would be looking for a fee of around £20 million in order to sell Cantwell, as well as mentioning that Leeds are indeed heavily linked with the midfielder.

As such, with around a week remaining of the domestic transfer window, which shuts on October 16, this will certainly be a potential deal we will be keeping a very close eye on.
