Aston Villa journalist Gregg Evans has been singing the praises of Villa winger Trezeguet.

This comes after Evans recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Villa-themed podcast 1874 where he reflected on Villa’s 1-0 win against Leicester City at the weekend.

First up in this quiz on Gabriel Agbonlahor, how old is the former Villa man?

On the topic of Trezeguet, who played in the majority of the match at the King Power Stadium, Evans had this to say on the winger.

He said: “The amount of energy that Trezeguet puts in, it’s natural that he’s going to be tiring when it gets to like 65, 70, 75 minutes. [It’s] an incredible turnaround from that player as well, somebody who, admittedly I thought wasn’t cut out to be a Villa player, wasn’t cut out for the Premier League.

“He was probably the scapegoat in the winter months of last season where things weren’t going well. I mean fair play to him for knuckling down and working so hard and actually realising that sometimes hard work beats talent.

“I know it’s a bit of a cliche, and it’s an old saying these days, but if you work harder than everybody else, then that’s why he’s keeping his place at the moment.”

Villa signed Trezeguet, who is currently valued at £7.2 million, from Turkish club Kasimpasa back in the 2019 summer transfer window for a fee of £9 million.

In his first season at Villa Park, the Egyptian made 34 Premier League appearances, scored six goals, provided one assist and ultimately earned himself a season rating of 6.59/10 for his performances (per WhoScored).

So far in this current campaign, Trezeguet has earned himself a much improved season rating of 7.64/10 for his performances in the four league games he’s played for Dean Smith’s side.

TIF Thoughts on Gregg Evans’ comments on Trezeguet…

It’s nice to hear this praise Evans has for Trezeguet and how he recognises the work the winger has put in since last season. If Trezeguet can continue playing regularly for Villa and putting in good performances, he could well be one of Villa’s standout players this season.
