Many Celtic fans have been talking about the latest comments that Charlie Nicholas has recently made about Scott McKenna.

Nicholas was recently talking to the Daily Express (via the Scottish Sun) and he said that the Hoops should have come back to sign Scott McKenna this summer. He also said that Celtic’s summer signing Shane Duffy isn’t ‘significantly better’ than McKenna.

Nicholas also said that if Celtic had signed McKenna, they could have doubled or trebled their money in a few years.

On Monday, McKenna was undergoing a medical in London ahead of a move to Nottingham Forest. The deal is said to be a club-record sale for Aberdeen, but McKenna was linked with a move to Celtic back in June.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

A tweet about Nicholas’ comments was relayed on Twitter by the Scottish Sun recently. It caught the attention of many Celtic fans, who made their opinions clear about Nicholas and what he had to say.

Do you think McKenna would have been a good option for Celtic?

McKenna, currently 23, has been a regular for Aberdeen over the last few seasons. Even this season, he has made six appearances in all competitions for Aberdeen including a couple of games in the club’s UEFA Europa League qualifying games (as per Transfermarkt).

Some other Celtic fans also criticised Nicholas for his opinion and they made their feelings very clear.

McKenna has done well in the Premiership this season and in four league appearances, he has racked up a rating of 7.11. Because of that, he’s been the club’s third-best performer in the league in the current season.

So the 23-year-old is clearly a pretty capable defender and perhaps that is why Celtic were initially linked with a move for the Scotsman. Duffy though has been Celtic’s second-best player in the Premiership this season and has already scored twice for the club (as per Whoscored).

So Celtic shouldn’t regret the fact that they signed Duffy and didn’t sign McKenna this summer.
