West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has recently slated an admission which was made by one of the club’s owners, David Sullivan.

During a recent appearance on TalkSPORT, the 71-year-old businessman discussed the Hammers’ recent 5-1 victory over Hull City in the Carabao Cup.

However, with the club set to face Everton in the next round of the competition after they beat Fleetwood Town 5-2, Sullivan bemoaned the cost of being in the cup. (2:22)

He said: “The win [on Tuesday] is marvellous, but in fact, it’s probably cost us about £50,000 because we have to fly to Fleetwood or Everton next week. The away games, unfortunately, we’ve got a £50,000 cost next week.”

So, on the latest episode of The West Ham Way podcast, @ExWHUemployee discussed the admission from Sullivan and slated him for it.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “I think he said a number of things in there which, as a West Ham fan, are not great to hear.

“The fact that a success in the cup has been put down, almost, to be a bad thing because we have to spend £50,000 travelling to Everton or Fleetwood when, really, that should be exciting for the owner of a football club.

“He stated that that trophy [is] without gate receipts and there’s no cash prize at the end of it, but the cash prizes for winning these cups surely shouldn’t be the motivation.

“The motivation should be giving the fans silverware and then a passport into Europe, where you would then get money back, surely? I find that shocking.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the club insider had to say, he clearly was frustrated by the view that the West Ham co-chairman was taking on the Hammers’ prolonged involvement in the Carabao Cup.

Were you disappointed in what David Sullivan said about the next round of the Carabao Cup?

No, he was realistic

Yes, it was disappointing

With the Irons having gone without silverware in a domestic cup competition since winning the FA Cup during the 1979/80 season, it is clear to see why @ExWHUemployee would like the competition to be viewed as an opportunity.
