During the latest episode of The Rumour Review, former Sky Sports journalist Pete O’Rourke, and Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones have been discussing some of the biggest transfer rumours in European football right now, including a look at Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in signing a striker.

It has been suggested that signing a striker is one of the Lilywhites’ transfer priorities during the current window, although the north London club have now played four games this season, and they still have just Harry Kane as a natural striker in their squad. During the video, Jones suggests that Jose Mourinho is keen for them to bring in Southampton striker Danny Ings, who is one name who was linked with a move to Spurs earlier in the transfer window.

Spurs fans: How well can you remember the last week of THFC action? - 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal of the season?

Here’s what he had to say about the former Liverpool man and the chances of him joining Spurs:

“Mourinho, as my understanding is, outlined to Daniel Levy a couple of weeks ago that he absolutely wants a new striker, and Gareth Bale’s addition hasn’t changed that, because he’s not the type of striker that Mourinho was talking about. Danny Ings is the man that Mourinho wants, and he’s made that pretty clear.

“There’s a problem in the sense that Danny Ings isn’t sure that that’s the right move for him. I think Danny Ings – burned once before by a high-profile move when he went to Liverpool – [it] didn’t work out for him for various reasons and he’s found himself a really good home now in Southampton and a place where he’s really thriving. So Danny Ings [has] definitely got reservations about whether he should join Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts…

Jones suggests that Ings is the man who Mourinho is desperate to sign, but it seems as if the north London club will be unlikely to agree a deal with the Saints, as it has been previously reported that they are not willing to sell the England international in the current transfer window – and it is easy to understand why, considering he notched 22 goals in the top flight last season.

Who would you rather Spurs sign?

It seems, therefore, that the Portuguese boss will have to settle for a different striking option, with Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik currently looking the most likely forward to join the Lilywhites.
