The Athletic reporter Roshane Thomas has recently shared an update regarding West Ham United’s transfer interest in Burnley’s James Tarkowski.

For a number of weeks, the Hammers have been linked with the 27-year-old defender and have reportedly made a number of bids to bring him to the London Stadium.

Last week, it was reported by Sky Sports that the Irons had seen a third bid for the centre-back rejected by the Clarets.

Supposedly, the transfer offer totalled £31m, with around £25m of that paid up front. However, it was stated that the offer fell ‘well short’ of what Sean Dyche’s side are after.

In the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas discussed the interest in Tarkowski and provided an update.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “Well, all interest with James Tarkowski has now ended. West Ham are going to try and turn their attentions elsewhere, it’s something Moyes will definitely be asked again in his press conference, but all interest has now ended.

“West Ham have dropped it; looking at other alternatives now.

“Last week, in Moyes’ pre-match press conference, he said there have been offers for a few players. He didn’t name names, but he said some have been loans, some have been transfers, so he’s hoping to have some news by the end of this week.

“And obviously, [we] have less than two weeks to go until the window closes, so there’s got to be some sort of signing at some point.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, it seems as though the Hammers have ended their interest in signing the £18m-rated Englishman from Burnley.

As stated by Thomas, there is now less than two weeks of the transfer window, which closes at 11pm on 5th October.

So, the Hammers will have to act fast if they are to add to the signing of Tomas Soucek on a permanent transfer in the current window.
