Football journalist David Ornstein has been discussing the possibility of Manchester United making a transfer move for FC Porto full-back Alex Telles.

This comes after Ornstein recently co-hosted The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast where he spoke about the latest goings-on with a number of clubs in the Premier League at the moment.

How well do you remember the action from the opening weekend of the Premier League? - 1. Who scored the first goal of the season?

On the subject of United and some potential areas they could be looking to strengthen during the remainder of the current summer transfer window, Ornstein had this to say on a possible move for Telles.

He said: “As the window has developed, they have opened the possibility of signing a left-back, too. Alex Telles of FC Porto, Brazil international, 27-years-old, is the subject of some discussions, no agreements have been reached, but it’s a situation that Manchester United are monitoring.”

The left-back, who is currently valued at £36 million, signed to Porto back in the 2016 summer transfer window from Galatasaray for a fee of £5.85 million.

Since then, Telles has made a total of 193 appearances for the club in which he has racked up an impressive total of 26 goals and 56 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Looking at the full-back’s goals and assists record for Porto, it’s no surprise that United are keeping an eye on Telles. With United having already signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax for a fee of £35.1 million earlier in the window, it will be interesting to see if the Manchester club decides to splash the cash once again to bring some new players in, like Telles for example.
