Celtic legend Chris Sutton has recently made a claim about Odsonne Edouard and his future at Parkhead.

Sutton was a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Parkhead-based club. They also talked about Edouard and his future at Celtic. Sutton believes that Celtic cannot afford to sell the French striker even if Edouard wants to leave.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Neil Lennon recently confirmed that there have been no bids for Edouard and the player isn’t causing any problems behind the scenes. He also said that Edouard was honest enough to tell him that he wasn’t feeling fit enough to start against Livingston (as per STV).

Sutton believes that if Celtic sell Edouard and then miss out on securing a 10th Premiership title in a row, it will be ‘unforgivable’.

Sutton said: “I still stand by what I’ve said all along – Celtic cannot let Odsonne Edouard go. The situation is plain and simple: with what’s at stake this season, they cannot let him go – even if he wants to go, and I don’t know whether he does or he doesn’t.

Will it be unforgivable if Celtic sell Edouard this summer?

No

“It was a surprise that at the weekend he wasn’t playing, but there may have been a reason behind that. But I’ll take you back to this point – if Celtic let Odsonne Edouard go and then do not win the ten, that will be unforgivable on Celtic’s part.”

TIF Thoughts…

Edouard, who is currently valued at £13.5m (as per Transfermarkt), has been linked with a move to the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Leicester City and Brighton, while Ligue 1 side Monaco had an approach rejected in January.

It shows that there could yet be quite a lot of interest in Edouard, despite Lennon’s claim no official approach has been forthcoming. Last season, he won the club’s Player of the Year award and finished as the highest scorer in the Premiership. He has already scored five times in all competitions this term, including a hat-trick against Hamilton in the first game of the season.

He is clearly a very important player for the Hoops and because of that, it is understandable why Sutton doesn’t want Celtic to sell him this summer, of all summers.
