Tottenham Hotspur YouTuber Chris Cowlin recently welcomed Ricky Sacks on to his channel to discuss the latest goings-on at the north London club, with a focus on some of the business that the Lilywhites have done so far in the transfer window, as well as some of the players they are reportedly interested in signing.

One topic of discussion in the recent video was Spurs defender Serge Aurier. The Ivory Coast international has been linked with a move away from the North London club throughout the window, with Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan amongst those reportedly interested. Following Spurs’ signing of Matt Doherty earlier in the transfer window, the former PSG man has failed to make an appearance in any of the Lilywhites’ opening three fixtures, suggesting that Jose Mourinho no longer considers him first-choice.

Here’s what Sacks had to say about the 27-year-old and whether he believes he could leave Spurs during the video:

“There’s significant interest from Spartak Moscow in him at the moment. Whether that goes any further than just an enquiry remains to be seen. The issue we’ve got with Aurier is that, at the moment, [his] wage demands [are] quite high. Daniel [Levy] is not willing to take a penny less than what we bought him for two or three years ago, which is quite concerning and quite hard if you watch a highlights package of Aurier over the last 24 months.

“I think, generally, we are going to have to compromise. From a business perspective, it’s a great attitude, fantastic to go into negotiating, believing that you will be able to get the maximum for a player. But at the same time, I think you have to also take into account that, [if] you look at his form, I don’t think he wants to be at Tottenham. I don’t think he wanted to be at Tottenham last year.”

TIF Thoughts…

Sacks certainly doesn’t feel that Aurier is fully committed to Tottenham and wants to leave the club, although he is perhaps a little harsh when discussing his performances, especially when you consider that the Ivorian was rated as Spurs’ third-best player in the Premier League last season, averaging a strong 7.06 rating (per WhoScored).

Do you think Aurier will leave Spurs?

No

With the amount of games Spurs are going to have to play this season, you would imagine that Aurier will get some game time, but if he wants to be a regular first-choice then it may be better if he leaves the club during the current transfer window, and as Sacks mentions, Spartak Moscow have reportedly registered a strong interest in signing him, so perhaps that is where he will end up.
