Jason McGovern joined Ricky Sacks and Lee McQueen on a recent edition of the Last Word On Spurs podcast to discuss all things Tottenham Hotspur.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

McGovern spent a bit of time talking about Spurs’ defeat to Watford in pre-season at the weekend, and one of the topics he discussed was Cameron Carter-Vickers’ future.

The 22-year-old has been with Spurs since he was a youth prospect and he has only made four senior appearances, so McGovern provided his view on what he thinks Spurs should do with the player.

It seems as if McGovern thinks that Spurs should let the 22-year-old go as if he hasn’t made it yet in the Premier League, he isn’t going to now.

He said: “You’re talking about a player that’s been there 11/12 years, I don’t think he’s started a Premier League game yet, and he’s now 22/23.

“So, I think that tells you all, if it was going to happen for him, it would have happened by now, the fact that Japhet Tanganga has come into the side before Cameron Carter-Vickers and there’s been other players there in Cameron Carter-Vickers’ time.

“So, he’s perhaps just playing there in pre-season just to have a final look at him.

“It’s time to pull the plug, I think, and move on.”

TIF Thoughts…

Carter-Vickers, an 8-time American international, has spent time out on loan at the likes of Stoke City and Swansea City.

However, only four senior appearances for Spurs since his debut in January 2017 does not suggest he has a future at the club, while it appears as if McGovern has had enough, and at just 22, releasing him now could allow him to progress his career somewhere else.

It could also clear room in Spurs’ squad for another prospect or potentially a new signing.

Still, it is clear that McGovern thinks Carter-Vickers’ time is up, and given his lack of senior appearances for Spurs, we agree that it could be time the defender moved on.
