On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks and Jamie Brown were joined by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano to discuss some of the transfer business that could occur at Tottenham Hotspur during the rest of the summer window.

One topic of discussion on the recent podcast, which was titled ‘Summer Transfer Window (Ft. Fabrizio Romano)’, was Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the Polish international in the past and it can certainly be argued that signing a forward is a priority for the North London club this summer when you consider the lack of options Jose Mourinho was left with last season following the injury to Harry Kane.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what Romano had to say about Spurs’ interest in Milik on the podcast:

“He’s a player who is appreciated by Tottenham. For sure, Tottenham had some talks in June with his agent, so there is something true in this possibility.

“The problem is that after Tottenham made contact with him, Juventus [also] made contact with him. It’s a complicated situation because Juventus, I’m told, [have] an agreement with Arkadiusz Milik about personal terms, but don’t have any agreement with Napoli to sign the player.

“Now, Juventus are going for [Edin] Dzeko, are going for Luis Suarez, they are looking for a different striker because they changed the manager.”

He goes on to suggest that:

“In this kind of situation, Milik can consider other clubs and we have to pay attention to Tottenham because they have contacts with his agent, he’s appreciated also by the Atletico Madrid directors.

“So, many clubs are waiting for the Milik situation and when, before, I told you that Tottenham are waiting for some opportunity in the transfer market, Milik can be an opportunity because we speak about a good striker – a striker who has just one year left on his contract with Napoli.

“So, pay attention to this situation, because I am sure that he is [on] the list, nothing is advanced yet because the situation is controlled by Juventus.”

TIF Thoughts…

Romano seems to suggest that whilst Spurs do have an interest in signing Milik this summer, whether or not they sign him very much depends on whether Juventus opt to bring in the likes of Dzeko or Suarez rather than the 26-year-old Napoli man.

Are you hoping that Spurs sign Milik this summer?

No

Considering he contributed 11 goals in 26 Serie A appearances last season, you could certainly argue that he would be a solid addition to Jose Mourinho’s Spurs side.

However, injuries have been a concern for the former Ajax man in the past, so, he may prove to be a risky signing if the Lilywhites were reliant on him as their main striker should Kane suffer another injury.
