On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks and Jamie Brown were joined by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano to discuss some of the transfer business that could occur at Tottenham Hotspur during the rest of the summer window.

One topic of discussion on the recent podcast, which was titled ‘Summer Transfer Window (Ft. Fabrizio Romano)’, was the former Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen.

It has been suggested recently that Antonio Conte is willing to offload the Danish international during the summer transfer window, despite him having only joined the Serie A side from Spurs in January.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what Romano had to say about the 28-year-old on the podcast when asked by Sacks if he could see Eriksen returning to north London ahead of the 2020/21 campaign:

“To be honest with you, my answer would be no, but the truth is that two weeks ago, one of my sources told me Tottenham have asked to take Christian Eriksen back.

“Immediately after, I spoke with Inter and they told me there is no chance to see Christian Eriksen back at Tottenham. So, this is not a possibility.”

TIF Thoughts…

It is interesting to hear that Spurs enquired about potentially taking Eriksen back from Inter, although Romano seems confident that the former Ajax man won’t be returning to North London this summer.

It is unsurprising that the midfielder, who is valued at £54 million (Transfermarkt), is being linked with an exit from the San Siro outfit; considering he made 17 appearances in the Italian top flight last season; contributing just one goal and two assists, which saw him average an uninspiring 6.60 rating (per Whoscored).

It can certainly be argued that the Dane enjoyed the best spell of his career thus far with Spurs; contributing 69 goals and 89 assists in 305 appearances for the Lilywhites (per Transfermarkt) but considering the manner of his departure, which came after he announced his intention to leave the club last summer, it is easy to see why Romano feels a return is not a possibility for the time being.
