On the subject of Spurs and some potential deals they could be looking to make before the current summer transfer window closes, Castles had this to say on the matter.

He said: “[Jose Mourinho] wants a striker who can deputise for Harry Kane as necessary. I believe there’s an interest in Bas Dost at Eintracht Frankfurt, but I’m not sure whether that is going to happen, because there is a question mark over whether [Daniel] Levy will liberate further resource to take extra players in other positions when he’s done the [Gareth] Bale deal, he’s done the [Sergio] Reguilon deal, he’s got very good publicity from it, Tottenham supporters are happy and the actual overall cost of those deals fits with Tottenham’s financial difficulties, in that Bale is a loan [deal] with substantial wages, but wages subsidised by Real Madrid.”

The 31-year-old, who is currently valued at £4.95 million, signed to Frankfurt back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of £6.3 million (per Transfermarkt).

The striker made 24 appearances for the German club in the Bundesliga last season in which he managed to score eight goals and provide two assists along the way.

His performances in those appearances earned the Dutchman a season rating of 7.06/10, making him Frankfurt’s third-highest rated player for their 2019/20 league campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

Looking at how impressive Dost was for Frankfurt last season in the Bundesliga, it’s no surprise that Spurs apparently have interest in him to be a deputy for Harry Kane as Castles claimed in the podcast.

With the current transfer window set to close in October, it will be interesting to see whether or not Spurs manage to bring a new striker in before it shuts.
