LFC Daytrippers contributor Grizz Khan has been discussing the reports linking the Premier League champions with a move for Kalidou Koulibaly during a recent edition of the podcast.

The Anfield club are one of a number of clubs said to be interested in the 29-year-old Napoli centre-back. According to Transfermarkt, the Senegal international is currently valued at £58.5m.

First up in this Jordan Henderson quiz, how old is the Liverpool captain?

Fabinho was tasked with partnering Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defence during the club’s recent win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (as per BBC Sport), perhaps drawing attention to the fact that the club should maybe be considering bringing in another centre-back.

However, according to Khan, Koulibaly is not on their radar, here is what he had to say:

“The Koulibaly links come [totally] from his agent.

“We assessed it very early and it wasn’t for us, but his agent is saying ‘we can do a deal’, and that is where the rumours are coming from, but Koulibaly won’t happen now. We did look at it, it was considered because the agent was offering him to us.

“But there is no chance of a deal with Koulibaly, it’s just his agent playing games with the media.”

TIF Thoughts…

The defender’s average performance rating in the Italian top-flight last season was a slightly disappointing 6.72/10 according to WhoScored, which was lower than his rating of 7.06/10 from the 2018/19 season and so you could argue that he hasn’t been at his best in recent times.

Judging by the podcaster’s comments, however, there is no reason for the Liverpool fans to be concerned as it doesn’t appear a deal taking him to Anfield is on the cards.
