Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein provided an update on some of the rumours of the summer transfer window, and, in particular, the situation of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Tanguy Ndombele.

Since joining Spurs from Olympique Lyon in what was a club record €60 million (£53.8 million) deal last summer, Ndombele has gone on to make 29 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Of these 29 appearances, 21 came in the Premier League, over which the £40.5 million-rated midfielder scored two goals and provided two assists, averaging a slightly disappointing WhoScored match rating of 6.71.

However, the 23-year-old performed much better during the club’s Champions League campaign, providing two assists over his six appearances in the competition, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.34.

So, while Ndombele’s debut season at Spurs was by no means mind-blowing, it was, from his statistics, at least, far from being a complete disaster.

However, despite this, it has been reported that Spurs could be willing to offload their record signing after just one year at the club, which could be linked to reports of a bust-up between the French international and Jose Mourinho.

In stark contrast to these reports, though, Ornstein recently stated that the club are, in fact, not willing to sell the 23-year-old this year.

He said: “I don’t know how the personal relationship is between [Mourinho and Ndombele], but what I do know is that Tottenham are committed to keeping Tanguy Ndombele. They invested heavily in him last summer, and they’re not prepared to give up on him after just a year.

“They have had some interest in him, but they’re not interested in selling, and anyway, in this climate, you wouldn’t get back what you paid for him. They’re not going to sell at a loss and they’ll try and get the best out of him. So hopefully for all parties in this situation, Tanguy Ndombele can show the sort of form we saw for Lyon and be a success at Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, then, it would certainly seem as if the journalist is certain of the fact that Spurs want to keep Ndombele at the club beyond the end of the summer transfer window.

In our opinion, this is great news for Spurs fans as, although, admittedly, he did slightly struggle in his first season in north London, from his performances while at Lyon, it is clear that Ndombele is a very talented footballer – all Tottenham have to do is give him the platform to play his game.
