Speaking recently on The Extra Inch podcast, Bardi claimed that he is starting to have doubts about Tottenham Hotspur left-back, Ryan Sessegnon.

After moving to Spurs from Fulham in what was a £24.3 million deal last summer, Sessegnon went on to make just 12 appearances in all competitions for the club last season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Six of these appearances came in the Premier League, with the 20-year-old failing to score or provide an assist, while averaging a disappointing WhoScored match rating of just 6.32 – ranking him as club’s sixth-worst performer in the league.

However, the England U21 international did show signs of promise in the Champions League, scoring one goal and providing one assist over his three appearances in the competition, averaging a slightly better, but still not mind-blowing, average WhoScored match rating of 6.55.

Despite this, it would appear as if Bardi is losing patience with the left-back, as, speaking recently on The Extra Inch podcast, he shared his doubts about Sessegnon.

He said: “I’m less sold on Sessegnon. I’m going to keep my opinions to myself for a little while, but I’m starting to have doubts. I’m starting to have doubts about Sessegnon.

“I’m not going to say bin him off, but I’m just a little bit concerned that we’re still using that ‘he lacks confidence’ thing. I will wait before I pass judgment on him.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering the fact that Sessegnon is still only 20 years old, it is our opinion that Bardi is right not to pass judgment on the left-back just yet.

There is a very good reason why Spurs purchased him last summer, and that was because the player had highly impressed at Fulham, where he scored a remarkable 16 goals and provided eight assists in the Championship during the 2017/18 season, before scoring a further two goals and providing six assists in the Premier League during the 2018/19 season.

A good player might still very much be in there, and all Spurs have to do is provide the £22.5 million-rated Sessegnon with the platform to play his game. If they do this, then, it is our belief, he will come good again.
