On the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on their 1-0 defeat against Everton last weekend, and also sharing some of the latest transfer news surrounding the North London club.

One topic of discussion on his recent video was Spurs’ reported interest in Braga striker Paulinho, not to be confused with the Brazilian midfielder who joined Spurs in 2013. The Lilywhites were linked with a move for the 27-year-old earlier this month, after his impressive season in Liga NOS, which saw him contribute 17 goals and seven assists in just 29 top-flight appearances, averaging a superb 7.27 rating (per Whoscored).

1. Spurs signed Alfie Devine from which League One club?

However, Gold was quick to rule out Spurs’ chances of signing the Braga man in his video when going through a raft of players that the club have been linked with, saying:

“Paulinho at Braga – he’s a 27-year-old, I’m told that there’s nothing in that one whatsoever.”

TIF Thoughts…

It is perhaps unfortunate that the Lilywhites seemingly aren’t pursuing a deal for the Braga striker, as his goal tally last season suggests that he could have been an effective back-up to Harry Kane in Jose Mourinho’s side. He is also valued at just £10.8 million by Transfermarkt, suggesting that he would have been a fairly cheap option for the North London club.

However, the Portuguese forward has no experience outside of Portugal, so it would have perhaps been a risky move to sign him and expect him to score goals in the absence of Kane. That being said, the Lilywhites do need to decide on a striker to sign shortly, as the transfer window closes in less than a month, so if they cannot decide on an option, perhaps Paulinho will emerge as a transfer target later in the window.
