Duncan Castles has been speaking on the latest edition of The Transfer Window podcast about Liverpool and their transfer business.
One of the points that came up in this discussion was the Reds’ pursuit of Thiago Alcantara.
It seems as if the Reds are still pondering over a move for Thiago despite the fact Jurgen Klopp wants him, and he is available for a reasonable €30m (£27.67m).
He said: “We know that Klopp wants players in. We know he tried extremely hard to get Timo Werner in, and FSG said, ‘No, we’re not doing it at that price.’
“We know he’s trying to get Thiago Alcantara in from Bayern, and there is a debate over whether the price of over €30m that Bayern are asking, for a player who has one year of [his] contract left and is close to going into his 30s, is acceptable or not – and interestingly, Klopp talked about how good a player Thiago was in recent interviews.”
Do you think Liverpool will sign Thiago?
No, we have waited too long
Yes, it will get done
TIF Thoughts…
Liverpool have been linked with Thiago for a while now, but as it stands, the Reds have still not agreed a deal for the Spaniard, and as per Castles, it seems as if they are weighing up his contract situation and age before making a move.
However, last season, Thiago was superb for Bayern as he registered a 7.76/10 rating for his Champions League displays and a 7.47 average rating for his Bundesliga performances.
Klopp clearly wants to do this deal, but as of yet, nothing has happened, so it will be intriguing to see if Liverpool do actually sign the 29-year-old or whether Klopp misses out on another target.
