The Athletic’s Phil Hay has provided a transfer update regarding Leeds United’s supposed interest in signing Rodrigo De Paul.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side has been ‘heavily linked‘ with the Argentine midfielder during this summer’s transfer window.

Italian outlet Messaggero Veneto, as cited by Mondo Udinese, has even claimed that the Whites have had a transfer offer rejected for De Paul.

Nice easy one to start with, who scored Leeds' first goal of the PL season?

On Monday morning, Hay was asked for an update on the interest in the Udinese midfielder by a supporter, to which the journalist responded: ‘hasn’t gone away that one’ (per Phil Hay).

Another supporter then followed the reporter’s post up with another question over whether or not the move was any closer, to which Hay then claimed: ‘not yet‘.

So, seemingly, Hay believes that the fact transfer rumours surrounding the link are still being published could mean Leeds are still interested, however, the transfer has not moved any closer.

TIF Thoughts…

The 26-year-old midfielder currently has four years left on his contract with Udinese and a market value of £27m according to Transfermarkt.

However, as stated in Messaggero Veneto’s report, De Paul’s Serie A club are after a fee over his market value somewhere in the region of €40m (£36.9m).

Seemingly, though, the player is talented and coupled with the length left on his contract, Udinese may be after a fair price for the Argentine.

Do you think Rodrigo De Paul is worth €40m (£36.9m)?

No, he's not worth that

According to WhoScored, during the 2019/20 Serie A season, De Paul was in impressive form as he bagged a solid 7.25/10 average rating.

To earn his average rating, the midfielder scored seven goals and assisted six for teammates over 34 appearances in the league.

So, it would certainly seem that De Paul is a talented middleman, however, it remains to be seen whether or not the Whites would stump up as much as €40m (£36.9m) for him.
