Phil Hay has been speaking on the latest edition of The Athletic’s The Phil Hay Show about all things relating to Leeds United.

Nice easy one to start with, who scored Leeds' first goal of the PL season?

One of the topics that he spent some time on was what the Whites intend to do in the remainder of the transfer window, and it looks like they have two positions in mind.

It seems as if Leeds are looking for another box-to-box midfielder and would also like to add a winger to their squad as well.

When asked about a winger and a midfielder, Hay said: “It’s very possible [that Leeds sign a winger and a midfielder].

“Those are the two positions that they’re looking at.

“I get the sense that [Leeds want] more of a No 8 than a No 10 and that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody, because [Marcelo] Bielsa does really play with two eights – or prefers to play with two eights, as opposed to an eight and a ten in the middle.

“But a winger as well – and there’s a lot of speculation suddenly about Dan James over at Manchester United, and he is somebody Leeds would be very keen on if that became an option.”

Would you be happy if Leeds did this business?

Yes, would complete the squad

Yes, would complete the squad

No, we need more than that

No, we need more than that

TIF Thoughts…

Marcelo Bielsa has lined up the Whites in a 4-1-4-1 formation against both Liverpool and Fulham with two number eights.

In the match against Liverpool, it was Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez, and against Fulham, it was Klich and Rodrigo.

So, you can see why Bielsa might want someone else who can play in that role, because Rodrigo is mainly a striker and probably should be competing with Patrick Bamford up top rather than for a deeper role.

In terms of their options on the wing, they have Helder Costa, Jack Harrison and Ian Poveda as natural wingers, so you can also see why they would want another winger to perhaps provide more competition and depth.

Leeds have been heavily linked with Rodrigo De Paul, who can play in that central midfield role and has provided goals and assists from that position, so he could be what Bielsa is after.

As Hay mentioned, Dan James has also been linked, who can play on either flank, so it will be intriguing to see if the Whites are able to strengthen the positions they want before the end of the transfer window.
