Leeds United journalist Beren Cross has provided an update on the Yorkshire club’s transfer pursuit of reported summer target Rodrigo de Paul.

This comes after Cross recently took part in a live Q&A session on Leeds Live where he answered a range of Leeds-related questions put to him by Whites fans online.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

During the Q&A session, Cross was asked if there was any news on Leeds’ pursuit of De Paul or Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, who the club have also been linked with recently.

The fan stated:

‘Any update on De Paul or Gvardiol?’

In response to this question, Cross revealed that there had been no new updates on the matter that he knew about and that Leeds would need to work hard to bring De Paul to Elland Road as they apparently wouldn’t be the only club interested in signing the attacking midfielder this summer. (5.17pm)

Beren stated:

‘There’s been no real progression in the reports from Italy since the weekend. They will both need work and Leeds won’t be the only club interested, especially with De Paul.’

De Paul, who is currently valued at £27 million, signed to Italian side Udinese in the 2016 summer transfer window from Spanish club Valencia in a deal worth a reported fee of £2.7 million.

Since then, the 26-year-old has gone on to make 146 appearances for Udinese in which he has managed to score 25 goals and provide 25 assists for his teammates along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 2019/20 Serie A season saw De Paul make 34 league appearances for Udinese, in which he earned himself a season rating of 7.25/10 for his performances, making him Udinese’s star performer in their previous league campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

Given how impressive De Paul was for Udinese last season, it comes as no surprise that Leeds are trying to secure his signature. However, according to Cross, it appears as though Leeds probably shouldn’t be considered as being the only club interested in signing the Argentine this summer.

If De Paul does have a long list of clubs all trying to sign him, it would be very impressive if Leeds manage to be the victors in this particular transfer pursuit.
