During the latest episode of the TIFO Football Podcast, Alex Stewart, Joe Devine and Seb Stafford-Bloor have been discussing some ‘sensible transfers’ that Everton should consider during the summer transfer window.

Those on the podcast seem to agree that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in need of a defensive-minded midfielder, following their failed attempt to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton, with the Danish midfielder opting to join Tottenham Hotspur instead. Although it seems as if the Merseyside club are close to adding Napoli midfielder Allan to their ranks ahead of next season, it seems as if Stewart believes that Everton should target Brondby ace Morten Frendrup or Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Peter Pokorny as potential signings.

To kick-off this quiz on Carlo Ancelotti on the side of easy, which side was his first game on the touchline at Goodison Park against?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about the duo on the podcast:

“I think if you’re looking at a potential future Hojbjerg, there’s a guy at Brondby called Morten Frendrup, who’s 19, and a guy called Peter Pokorny at Salzburg, who is 19. They are both midfielders to keep an eye on in that sort of ball-winning recovery kind of thing.”

TIF Thoughts…

Frendrup has already made 35 appearances for the senior side at Brondby, contributing one goal and one assist (per Transfermarkt). He is a Danish U19 international and is valued at just £1.8 million by Transfermarkt, so could be a potentially cheap option for the Toffees this summer.

Meanwhile, Pokorny is currently valued at £630k by Transfermarkt and is a Slovakian U21 international, although he is yet to make a senior appearance for the Austrian side.

Everton will no doubt be hoping that Jean-Philippe Gbamin can overcome his injury issues and establish himself as a regular in Ancelotti’s side next season, but if not, perhaps making a move for Frendrup or Pokorny wouldn’t be the worst idea if they could prove themselves to be either backup or starting options in the Toffees’ midfield.
