The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas has recently made a claim regarding West Ham United’s funds in the current transfer window.

So far this summer, the Hammers have only been able to seal the arrival of Tomas Soucek on a permanent deal for a £14.58m fee (per Transfermarkt).

In terms of outgoings, only two players have left the London Stadium which have generated income, with Albian Ajeti moving to Celtic for £4.95m and Jordan Hugill moving to Norwich City for £2.97m.

However, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas reiterated that David Moyes has a lack of transfer funds available to him this summer when discussing squad changes.

To kick-off this quiz on David Moyes on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at the London Stadium against?

He said: “Well, in terms of personnel, as in players coming in, it doesn’t seem likely because [of the] limited budget right now.

“As you’ve seen in the game against Wycombe and Ipswich Town, with Moyes pretty much playing two different teams – it shows that we do have strength in depth in the squad.

“It’s just a case of it being quality rather than quantity. You want players if someone gets injured, for example, someone [who] can come in and still do a good job.

“Both matches, they were good results, 5-1 against Wycombe and 4-1 against Ipswich Town, so, not bad at all.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Thomas had to say, it perhaps seems as though Moyes may have to rely on the depth that he already has in his squad rather than being able to bring in many new faces.

Would West Ham be relegated from the Premier League next season if they did not sign any more players this summer?

No, we have enough

However, with the Irons having picked up eight points in their final four Premier League matches during the 2019/20 term (per BBC), the current squad has proven that it is capable of delivering results.

So, it may not be entirely problematic if West Ham were unable to sign any more players permanently this summer.
