Aston Villa podcaster Chris Budd has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the Birmingham club making a transfer move for Brentford winger Said Benrahma this summer.

This comes after Budd recently made an appearance on Villa-themed podcast My Old Man Said where he spoke about a range of topics concerning Dean Smith’s side at the moment.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the topic of which potential incoming transfers Villa could make this summer, Budd had this to say on a possible move for Benrahma, who has been linked with a move to Villa Park in the past.

He said: “I think Benrahma we’ll miss out on in the end. I think Smith would probably like him, I think he’ll probably get priced quite high and I have a feeling with a player like that, I think somebody higher up the division will probably think ‘we could maybe take a punt on him’.

“I could see him sort of going to like an Everton or an Arsenal and sitting on the bench, maybe.

“I could see Benrahma maybe even being one of those deals that gets done right on deadline day where Brentford will just hold out for the best bid they can. I think it’s 50/50 at very best.”

Benrahma signed to Brentford back in the 2018 summer window from French side OGC Nice in a deal worth a reported fee of £1.53 million.

Since then, the Algerian has gone on to make a total of 91 appearances for Brentford in which he has scored 28 goals and provided 27 assists.

The 2019/20 season saw the 25-year-old make 46 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side in which he scored 17 goals and provided nine assists throughout the campaign. The winger’s performances in those appearances earned himself a season rating of 7.49/10, making him Brentford’s highest-rated player for their previous season (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

It appears that Budd feels that Villa are no longer looking likely to sign Benrahma this summer. Looking at his impressive record for Brentford last season in terms of his goals and assists, it would be understandable why Smith would be interested in signing the winger this summer as Budd suggested.

With the current summer transfer window not closing until early October, there is still time for Villa to potentially work out a deal with Brentford to take Benrahma off their hands.
