Sheffield Wednesday journalist Dom Howson discussed the latest news concerning the Owls on the most recent edition of the Singing The Blues podcast and spent some time talking about Keiren Westwood and his Wednesday future under Garry Monk.

Westwood has made a total of just nine appearances for the Owls in all competitions since Monk became Wednesday manager in September 2019. Furthermore, the 35-year-old goalkeeper has not made a single appearance for the club since last November.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

Additionally, the former Republic of Ireland international was not given a squad number by the Yorkshire club for the 2020/21 season.

With that in mind, it may not be too surprising that Howson was quite negative about Westwood’s future at Hillsborough under Monk during the latest edition of the Singing The Blues podcast, saying: “The other takeaway from squad numbers is that Keiren Westwood hasn’t got one, so he really doesn’t have any future, there’s no chance.

“Although, [Monk] didn’t shut the door – he said, pretty much, ‘never say never’ with Keiren Westwood.

“He’s training with the U23s, he’s not been given a squad number, we’re not going to be seeing, under Garry Monk, Keiren Westwood play again, I think, for Sheffield Wednesday.”

TIF Thoughts…

As per the Sheffield Star, ‘Monk has spoken a number of times about the squad transition needed at Sheffield Wednesday to a younger, hungrier feel.’

With that in mind, perhaps the manager believes that 35-year-old Westwood is too old to have a significant role in his Owls squad and it certainly seems as though the goalkeeper’s future at Hillsborough is bleak, given that he has not made a competitive appearance for the club in 2020 and is currently without a squad number for the upcoming league season, so it is difficult to disagree with Howson’s opinion that the £270k-rated Westwood is unlikely to feature for Wednesday again under Monk.
