Aston Villa YouTuber Max Stokes has been singing the praises of Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
This comes after Stokes recently made an appearance on The Villa View Podcast to look back over the Birmingham club’s recent 3-0 win over Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.
On the subject of Watkins, who came on as a substitute in the second half and then scored Villa’s third goal just three minutes later, this is what Stokes had to say on the striker.
He said: “His movement is really, really good. I think he’s the sort of player that we’ve been crying out for for the last few years. We’ve had countless strikers come in and haven’t really done the job.
“I just think he looks really good. He’s got a bit of everything as well, his movement, he’s quick, he’s strong, he can hold up the ball. He’s always in the right place at the right time.
“I think he’s going to be our main number nine this season. I’m really looking forward to seeing him more in the Premier League. I think once he gets a goal in the Premier League, he’ll start firing, he’s already got a couple in the cup, but I really like the look of him. He looks really good.”
Villa signed 24-year-old Watkins from Brentford earlier in the current summer transfer window for a club-record fee of £27.72 million.
Watkins was one of Brentford’s standout performers in the Championship last season, earning himself a season rating of 7.26/10 for his performances in the 49 appearances he made for the club throughout their previous campaign (per WhoScored).
In his latest appearance for Villa, Watkins earned himself an impressive match rating of 7.46/10 for his cameo in the win over Bristol.

Even though Watkins has only played a couple of games for Villa so far this season, it’s great to hear just how impressed Stokes is by the striker already.
