Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal has been discussing the future of Thomas Partey during a recent YouTube video.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times. The 27-year-old midfielder made 46 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga club during the 2019/20 campaign, contributing four goals and one assist (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

It’s understood that the Ghanaian has a minimum fee release clause of approximately €50m (£45m) and so it seems Arsenal will need to meet that if they are to bring the player to North London. Despite the fact the Gunners are yet to trigger the clause, according to Watts, the player would be interested in a move to the Premier League. Here is what he had to say:

“Arsenal are still very much in the hunt for Thomas Partey, they very much want to bring him to the Emirates [Stadium], and from what I understand from sources close to the player, he is keen on a move to London. If the two clubs can agree a deal for Thomas Partey, my understanding is that it’s very, very likely he would then make the move to Arsenal. But it’s about agreeing the deal with Atletico Madrid.”

TIF Thoughts…

According to WhoScored.com, Partey’s strengths are in his ability to intercept balls, tackle, dribble, shoot from distance and win aerial duels. Taking all of that into consideration, he would, in our view, add another dimension to the Arsenal midfield.

His average performance rating in La Liga last season was an impressive 7.08/10, highlighting the player’s ability to perform consistently and so if a deal is to be agreed, we believe it would represent a great piece of business for Mikel Arteta’s side.
