Many Celtic fans have recently been talking about Jonny Hayes and the club’s decision to not keep the player at Parkhead this summer.
The Celtic Twitter account recently shared a video of the club’s win at Ibrox last year. The video included goals from both Odsonne Edouard and Hayes. The caption of the video described them as ‘The calmest men at Ibrox’. Hayes left Celtic earlier this summer and has already joined Aberdeen on a free transfer.
This tweet caught the attention of many Celtic fans, who began talking about Hayes. They made their opinion clear about him and feel that Celtic should have kept him at Parkhead.
Should have kept Hayes.

It’s a pity JH was let go. Played his part as a crucial super sub. Deserved a chance of being in the 10IAR squad

As a Celtic player, Hayes made 68 appearances in all competitions and he played in a variety of positions on the pitch. A lot of his appearances came from the left-back position and he even played on the left of the midfield (as per Transfermarkt).
Some other Celtic fans also gave their opinion about Hayes and Celtic’s decision to let him leave when his contract expired.
Why did we let Johnny Hayes go?

I said it at the time and the Bolingoli nonsense proves it. We made a mistake letting Hayes go.

Boli Bolingoli broke quarantine rules some weeks ago after having taken a secret trip to Spain. As a result, Celtic are looking to offload the defender and are looking for potential replacements as well.
Considering how Hayes played in the left-back position quite a few times at Parkhead, having him at this point would have been a big help for Celtic. He could have added some depth in the team and since he can play in a variety of positions, Hayes might have been a pretty useful part of the side. So in that sense, letting him leave for free was perhaps a mistake.
