Many Celtic fans have been talking about the latest tweet from Tom English that emerged on social media recently.

English recently posted a tweet about Celtic’s 6-0 win over Reykjavik in the UEFA Champions League qualifying first-round game.

He talked about Odsonne Edouard and said that the game ‘was over after five minutes’, while he also urged the Hoops to give Edouard ‘a rest’ and play Albian Ajeti or Patryk Klimala. English had said that the Hoops could ‘score six or seven’ in the match.

The tweet from the journalist then caught the attention of many Celtic fans, who mocked English for saying that Edouard should’ve been given a rest.

Should Celtic have rested Edouard on Tuesday?

Edouard scored in the game on Tuesday, finding the back of the net in the 72nd minute. Mohamed Elyounoussi scored a brace and even left-back Greg Taylor got a goal for himself (as per Sky Sports).

Some other Celtic fans also mocked English for what he had to say about the game on Tuesday.

The idea of Edouard getting a rest doesn’t appear to have impressed Celtic fans as they know that the Hoops had some of their Premiership games postponed. Because of this, Edouard may have got a rest from playing regularly anyway.

The Frenchman had started in Celtic’s Premiership games against Hamilton and Kilmarnock and he even got a hat-trick against the Accies. He didn’t get a goal against Kilmarnock as the Hoops were held to a 1-1 draw (as per Transfermarkt).

Edouard’s goalscoring numbers from last season, of 27 across 45 appearances in all competitions, show how important a player he is for Celtic and resting him in an important Champions League qualifier might not have made too much sense for the Bhoys.
