Leeds United podcaster Gary Devonport has relayed some news regarding the Whites’ reported transfer interest in FC Basel forward Arthur Cabral.

This comes after Devonport recently hosted an episode of the Leeds-themed Talking Shutt podcast, where he spoke about a variety of topics related to the Yorkshire club.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

After a report from Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte came out earlier this month claiming that Leeds are interested in signing Cabral this summer, Devonport shared some information he found out after speaking to a Brazilian journalist on the matter.

He said: “He [the journalist] was under the impression that he [Cabral] wouldn’t be at Basel this year. I did a bit more digging with a few people and what I got back was that at this point, Leeds are not in for him. It’s not a deal they’re looking to do, so it kind of became something and nothing in [a] 24-hour period of time.”

22-year-old Cabral, who is currently valued at £5.4 million, signed to Basel from Brazilian side Palmeiras in a deal worth £3.96 million in July after spending the previous season on loan at the Swiss club.

Overall, Cabral has racked up a total of 39 appearances for Basel, in which he has scored 18 goals and provided six assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

If what the Brazilian journalist told Devonport is true, then Leeds either ended their reported interest in signing Cabral very quickly or they just didn’t have any interest in signing him in the first place.

Considering how Cabral only joined Basel on a permanent basis just a few weeks ago, it may have been difficult for Leeds to try and take him to Elland Road this summer, anyway.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if Leeds try and sign another striker this summer as they prepare for their 2020/21 Premier League season.
