Edgar brought up the latest news concerning Docherty and his future during this recent edition of the Heart and Hand podcast, saying: “Greg Docherty looks as though he’s going to be headed off to Hull for £400k, which to me, seems low.”

Thornton then replied to him to share his thoughts on Docherty’s move and his reported transfer fee, saying: “I’m a wee bit annoyed about that one. I think his time’s up, absolutely, but £400k seems incredibly low. That’s a loss on what we bought him for.

“Maybe there’s a sell-on fee in there as well, but I’d be expecting £1m for him. However, [there is the] climate and the main thing – he’s only worth what people are going to pay for him.”

TIF Thoughts…

It may be understandable why Edgar and Thornton would be disappointed by the reports claiming that Rangers are set to receive just £400k for Docherty, considering that Gers signed the 23-year-old for £671k back in January 2018.

However, since moving to Ibrox, the midfielder has made just 19 senior appearances for the Glasgow-based club.

While he featured more regularly during loan spells at Hibernian and Shrewsbury Town, this shows that he has not been a crucial member of Gers’ squad since moving to Ibrox and considering that he is currently valued at £360k by Transfermarkt, a £400k transfer fee may not be too bad of a deal for Rangers.
