Everton are supposedly eyeing a transfer swoop for AS Roma’s Italian right-back Alessandro Florenzi, according to reports.

As stated by La Nazione, cited by Sport Witness, the Toffees are the ‘most dangerous’ of the clubs that want to sign the Italy international.

However, it is not stated in the report why it is that Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit are thought to be the club most likely to land Florenzi.

This report comes just a day after Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Everton are ‘keen’ on signing the 29-year-old Italian, as cited by Sport Witness.

Di Marzio stated that the Merseyside outfit will ‘make an attempt for him’.

The Roma right-back currently has three years left on his contract with his Serie A club and a market value of £14.4m, according to Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

During the second half of the 2019/20 season, the right-back was on loan with La Liga outfit Valencia (per Transfermarkt).

While with the Spanish side, Florenzi made 12 league appearances, in which he neither scored nor assisted a goal (per WhoScored).

The defender also picked up a weak 6.42/10 average rating in the league, which made him Valencia’s 11th-worst performer in La Liga.

Would you be happy if Everton signed Alessandro Florenzi from AS Roma?

Had the Italian earned the same average rating for Everton in the Premier League last season, he would have been their joint-fifth-worst performer (per WhoScored).

Furthermore, during the 2019/20 season, Djibril Sidibe made 3.3 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per league match, whereas Florenzi made only 1.1 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per La Liga game.

So, it would seem that the Toffees may be better off staying clear of attempting to sign the Italian defender.
