Podcaster John McGinley has recently talked about Liam Moore and the rumours linking the defender with a Celtic move.

McGinley was a guest on the latest episode of The Grand Auld Podcast and the panel discussed many issues surrounding the Parkhead club, some of which were potential Celtic transfers and McGinley addressed the rumours linking the Hoops with a move for Reading defender Moore.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Reports have claimed that the Reading man is on Celtic’s wishlist this summer and Moore is one of the potential alternatives for Shane Duffy. The report also suggests that Reading are looking to offload some of their highest earners as they are facing financial difficulties (as per The Daily Record).

McGinley believes that Moore will be a ‘decent choice’ for the Hoops and talked about Celtic’s need for a central defender this summer.

McGinley said: “We’re looking for quality in that area because I think Liam Moore looks like another decent choice if we don’t get Duffy.

Who should Celtic sign?

I'd take Moore

I'd take Moore

I'd rather take Duffy

I'd rather take Duffy

“We want to bring in a quality defender. Someone who’s physical, perhaps British-based and just knows how to get in and amongst and perhaps be the linchpin of a three and add a bit of aggression to our backline. I think that’s what everyone’s kind of crying out for.”

TIF Thoughts…

The 27-year-old Moore made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Royals last term, with 43 of those coming in the Championship, over which he racked up an average match rating of 6.69 (as per Whoscored). As many as 11 players earned better season ratings than Moore in Reading’s 2019/20 campaign.

However, Moore has picked up much better seasonal ratings in the past, and this could go to show that he might be able to do a reliable job at the back.

So if a move for Duffy doesn’t work out, signing Moore might not be a bad idea for the Bhoys.
