Celtic journalist Michael Gannon has provided an update concerning the Hoops’ reported transfer interest in Ivan Toney and Albian Ajeti.

This comes as Gannon recently made an appearance on The Daily Record’s Record Celtic Podcast to talk through the latest goings-on at the Scottish club.

Who would you rather see Celtic buy this summer?

On the topic of a potential double transfer swoop for Toney and Ajeti this summer, Gannon shared his thoughts on the matter.

He said: “What I gather is that Celtic are chasing quite a few guys. I wouldn’t imagine that they’d get or want both. Both of these transfers are a wee bit away from happening at the moment. I would think one or the other; I think Celtic have got other targets as well, I think there’s a few in the list. I definitely think they’re looking for an insurance policy in terms of [Odsonne] Edouard as well, because I think they know that at some point someone is going to come in for Edouard.”

Ajeti signed to West Ham United back in the 2019 summer transfer window for a fee of £7.83 million from FC Basel. However, the striker only managed to make 12 appearances for the east London club across all competitions in the 2019/20 season, in which he failed to score a goal or provide an assist for his teammates (per Transfermarkt).

Toney, on the other hand, had a fantastic season for his side. In 39 appearances for Peterborough United this season, Toney managed to score 26 goals and provide seven assists along the way.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

TIF Thoughts…

As Gannon mentioned in the podcast, if Celtic only managed to sign one of the two forwards this summer, you would think that Toney would be the priority due to his fantastic goal record in the 2019/20 season.

It will be interesting to see what Celtic manage to do during the transfer window this summer as they look to secure their 10th Scottish Premiership title in a row this season.
