Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly have an interest in making a transfer swoop for FC Köln striker Jhon Córdoba.

According to German publication Express, the Old Gold are ‘the first interested club to be named’ in pursuit of the 27-year-old forward.

As stated in Express’ report, the player is currently contracted to his Bundesliga club until 2021, however, there is no extension to that deal in sight.

The report from the German outlet came a day after Colombian news source Extra touted how much it would set a potential buyer back to seal the arrival of the forward.

According to their report, it would take €20m (£18m) to sign the striker who has supposedly made no secret of his desire to play in England.

The 27-year-old Colombian currently has a market value of £10.8m according to Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

During the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, the forward bagged a respectable return in front of goal with 13 goals and two assists over 29 league appearances (per WhoScored).

The record earned Córdoba a 6.96/10 average rating which made him the joint-third-best performer for FC Köln in the Bundesliga.

Had the striker earned the same average rating for Wolves in the Premier League this season, then he would have been their sixth-best performing player (per WhoScored).

Would you be happy if Wolves signed Jhon Córdoba from FC Köln this summer?

In comparison with Raul Jimenez, however, the Colombian attacker looks less impressive as he performed weaker in key offensive statistics.

For FC Köln, Córdoba took 2.1 shots, made 0.9 key passes and performed 0.7 dribbles per league match whereas Jimenez took 3.1 shots, made 1.3 key passes and performed 1.6 dribbles per Premier League outing.

So, that would suggest that the Bundesliga striker would not be an adequate replacement for Wolves’ Mexican frontman, but could be a suitable backup option.
