A Christopher Jullien interview featured on a recent edition of the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast and the Celtic defender spent some time talking about the Hoops’ UEFA Champions League ambitions during the interview.

As per the BBC, in order to make it to the Champions League group stage ‘for the first time in three years’ in the 2020/21 season, Celtic ‘will have to come through three rounds of one-legged qualifiers, with only the play-off then held on a home and away basis.’

Celtic haven’t competed in the Champions League group stage since the 2017/18 campaign when they finished in third place in a group that also featured Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and RSC Anderlecht.

Jullien competed in the UEFA Europa League with the Hoops during the 2019/20 season but he is yet to compete in the Champions League, beyond the qualification stage, in his career.

The defender talked about he and Celtic’s hopes of competing in the 2020/21 Champions League group stage during an interview that featured on this recent edition of the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast, saying: “The coach told us that he wants us to go back to [the] Champions League – where we belong.

“It’s been two or three years [since Celtic have] been there and he really wants to see the fans enjoy [that], like us on the field and [if] the fans [can] come back for that, that would be just perfect.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering that Celtic haven’t competed in the Champions League group stage in either of the last two seasons, it may be understandable why Hoops boss Lennon has told his squad that he wants to see the Glasgow-based club competing amongst Europe’s elite once again in the 2020/21 campaign.

Judging by Jullien’s comments, it appears that Celtic’s players may be feeling motivated to deliver Champions League football for their fans in the 2020/21 season, which may be encouraging news for Hoops supporters.
