Podcast host Will Pugh has been discussing the options that West Ham United manager David Moyes has up front.
Currently, the Irons only have two out-and-out strikers in their first-team squad – those being Michail Antonio and Sebastien Haller (per Transfermarkt).
During the final seven games of the 2019/20 Premier League season, Antonio was in stellar form as he bagged eight goals, meanwhile, Haller scored his last goal for the club at the end of February.
A recent report from The Sun has also linked the Irons with a transfer swoop for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.
So, in the latest episode of the We Are West Ham Podcast, Pugh discussed Moyes’ striking options and aired his thoughts on the Wilson rumour.
He said: “I have heard a few calls, or seen a few calls on Twitter, for a striker.
“I think it’s easy to forget that because Antonio finished the season so well, that will be a headache that David Moyes has got come the start of the season – whether he plays Haller or Antonio up top.
“Then, of course, both of them [are] fairly injury-prone – Antonio probably a little bit more so. There may be a stage where we need that third-choice striker again.
“Certainly having Callum Wilson in the ranks would obviously bump Antonio down, you would have thought if he’s going to start with Haller but it all just seems a little bit awkward, doesn’t it?”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen from what the podcast host had to say, he clearly believes that who will start up front next season will be a “headache” for Moyes.
Do you think West Ham should sign Callum Wilson this summer?
No, we don't need him
Yes, he's a good player
Going off their average ratings, Antonio should be the player to start as he delivered a stellar 7.29/10 average rating over the 2019/20 Premier League season whereas Haller earned a 7.08/10 (per WhoScored).
Wilson earned comfortably worse than them both in the league in the most recent season for the Cherries as he delivered a 6.51/10 average rating (per WhoScored).
So, it will certainly be interesting to see what the Irons’ Scottish manager does decide to do.
