On the latest episode of the View from the Lane podcast for The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke and James Maw have been answering questions from Spurs fans regarding the upcoming season for Tottenham Hotspur.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Is Dele the odd one out?‘, was the future of Eric Dier in Jose Mourinho’s side. The 26-year-old established himself as a regular in the Spurs first-team following the Premier League restart as a centre-back and was rewarded with a new contract with the North London club in July.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what Pitt-Brooke had to say about the England international on the podcast:

“I really think things are set up for Dier to have a very good season at centre-back, he’s obviously had a pretty difficult few years with injuries, illness, lost his fitness, lost his place in the team, didn’t know whether he was going to be a centre-back or a midfielder, speculation about his future, all the rest of it, but now he’s fit, he’s settled, he knows his best position. He’s in line to play in his best position at centre-back. He’s got his new contract.

“I feel like things are set up for Dier to have a good season at centre-back this year. It might well be that in a year’s time, by the end of this season, he’s had a good season at centre-back, he’s played most of the games, and he’s playing centre-back for England because I don’t think either of those places in [Gareth] Southgate’s team are locked down at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts…

It seems as if Pitt-Brooke feels that now Dier has seemingly committed to being a centre-back for Spurs, there is no reason why he can’t have an excellent season for the North London club and perhaps establish himself as a regular in the England setup.

Do you think Dier will have a good season?

No

The former Sporting CP man impressed following the Premier League restart, particularly in performances against West Ham and Everton, so hopefully, for the defender, he can take that form into the 2020/21 Premier League campaign and prove himself to be a key player in Mourinho’s squad.
