On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Jamie Brown and Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, with a focus on some of the transfer deals that could potentially happen during the summer window.

One topic of discussion on the recent podcast, which was titled ‘Summer Transfer Window (Ft. Lyall Thomas)‘, was Spurs defender Ryan Sessegnon.

The 20-year-old was signed from Fulham last summer for £25 million, but struggled to make much of an impact in his first season with the north London club, making just six appearances in the top-flight; averaging a disappointing 6.32 rating (per Whoscored).

Perhaps as a result of this, it has been suggested that he could leave on loan this summer, with his old side Fulham reportedly interested, alongside Ajax, whilst it has also been suggested that Barcelona are keen to sign him permanently.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what Thomas had to say about Sessegnon and the likelihood of him leaving the Lilywhites on loan, or permanently, this summer:

“Ryan Sessegnon, again, another player who needs to play. Another player who’s at that point in his career where he needs to play every week under the right coach in the right system to get the best out of him. Again, a player that [Mauricio] Pochettino wanted over repeated transfer windows, so one that it’s a little bit more clouded to see how, or if, he will fit into the Mourinho structure. But apparently, Mourinho wants to keep him, Mourinho really likes him.

“There’s obviously going to be a lot of interest in Sessegnon, he was one of the most highly rated teenagers at youth level around Europe. Everybody knew Sessegnon’s name, everybody went to watch him. I reported a bit earlier in the window about Barcelona’s admirations for Sessegnon, they had scouts watching Sessegnon in Fulham’s promotion season. They had scouts at Craven Cottage watching him, they had scouts at Wembley for the play-off final.

“So there’s going to be an abundance of interest in Sessegnon, especially from certain teams that play a certain way like Ajax and Barcelona; [it will be] an interesting one to see play out over the next couple of months.”

TIF Thoughts…

From what Thomas says, it seems as if Mourinho is a big fan of Sessegnon and wants to keep him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the 2020/21 campaign.

However, the youngster failed to make a single appearance following the restart of the Premier League, so you would hope that he will make significantly more appearances next season, otherwise his development may be stifled.

What would you do with Sessegnon?

Keep him

Keep him

Loan him

Loan him

Sell him

Sell him

Perhaps if the likes of Ajax or Barcelona do make an official approach for the England U21 international, then Spurs will be convinced to loan him out or sell him permanently, especially if he fails to impress Mourinho in pre-season.
