On the latest episode of the View from The Lane podcast for The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke, James Maw and Charlie Eccleshare have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, with a focus on some of the transfer deals that have occurred so far this summer.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled ‘The Curious Signing of Joe Hart’, was the recent departure of midfielder Luke Amos. The 23-year-old completed a permanent move to QPR earlier this week, having spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan with Mark Warburton’s side in the Championship (per BBC).

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what Eccleshare had to say about the transfer on the podcast:

“Amos is on a permanent deal, he’s moved to QPR, where he spent last season on loan. Amos is a defensive midfielder who looked like he might be making a breakthrough under [Mauricio] Pochettino in [the] summer of 2018; he played a lot of pre-season, he came on on the opening day and then did his ACL. So [he] was then out for a year, and then went to QPR last season, did quite well and really enjoyed being there and enjoyed working with Mark Warburton.

“Middlesbrough [were] the other club in the mix for him, but [it] obviously made sense going to QPR where he’d been and made lots of close friends in that QPR squad, and I think it’s a good move. QPR [have a] good pedigree of playing young players, they know him and from the sounds of it, it’s not a huge transfer fee, but there are quite a lot of add-ons, with appearances and sell-on fee. So it sounds like a smart deal for everyone.”

TIF Thoughts…

From the sounds of things, Eccleshare feels that Amos’ move was a good transfer for all parties, as at 23 years old, Amos has managed just one senior appearance for the Lilywhites. However, he managed to establish himself as a key member of QPR’s squad last season, making 34 appearances in the Championship and contributing two goals (per WhoScored).

Hopefully, the youngster will go on to have a good career following his departure from Spurs and perhaps with the add-ons that Eccleshare mentions, his move could prove to be financially beneficial for the north London club in the future.
