Pundit Darren Jackson has recently been talking about Celtic and the chances of the club being fined by the SPFL because of the Boli Bolingoli situation.

Jackson was a guest on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed many issues surrounding Scottish football. The main topic of discussion was Celtic and the SPFL’s charges against the Hoops for how Bolingoli had breached quarantine regulations. Jackson talked about the idea of a potential fine for those clubs whose players had flouted the rules.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

The SPFL has now opened disciplinary proceedings against Celtic and a hearing is expected to take place on the 28th of August. Bolingoli had taken a secret trip to Spain and after failing to quarantine, he had featured in Celtic’s Premiership game against Kilmarnock.

Jackson believes that Celtic’s punishment has ‘got to be a fine’ and that is because this case involves the wrongdoing of an individual and not that of a group of players.

The pundit said: “It has got to be a fine. Because it is individuals. It is not as if they were with the clubs and they went out on a night out and then came back and were away maybe on a pre-season trip.

Will Celtic get fined by the SPFL?

“It has got to be a fine, but everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon and dock clubs points. As you say, it is [an] individual and an individual should be dealt with.”

TIF Thoughts…

Former Celtic man John Hartson has already criticised Bolingoli for his act and while talking to Celtic TV (via Daily Record), he said that the defender has ‘put everything in jeopardy’. He also said that the Belgian has ‘let himself down’. Neil Lennon has also said that he is ‘livid’ about what Bolingoli has done.

It is clear that people are angry and because the left-back, Celtic have had their games postponed already. In this case, it is pretty clear that an individual has done the wrong thing and as Hartson says – he is the one who has ‘put everything in jeopardy’. So anything like docking the club points might be unfair, considering how this is more about the misdeeds on a single player.
