Wolves Fancast host David Evans has aired his belief that there is a chance that Matt Doherty may leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

The Irish wing-back has been a Wolves player since the 28-year-old’s arrival from Bohemians in the summer of 2010 for just £81,000 (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, Doherty has made 302 appearances for the Old Gold in which he has bagged 28 goals and 41 assists (per Transfermarkt).

However, in the latest episode of the Wolves Fancast, Evans aired his belief that there was a possibility that ‘Doc’ may see his ten-year stay at the club come to an end this summer when selecting his potential surprise exit of the window.

To kick-off this quiz on Nuno Espirito Santo on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at Molineux against?

He said: “I think Doc might be the surprise exit.

“Now, my only reason for this is – don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a great player, I think Nuno [Espirito Santo] has said in interviews recently how great he is – I just wonder whether they’ll look at someone like Doc and think they can get, perhaps, better than him going forward for the team to strengthen.

“I know he’s been linked with Spurs previously. I just wonder if they look at Doc and think he’s probably at the maximum potential cash-wise to get for that type of player, will they look to cash in and get in what they may see as a better player going forward?”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the podcast host had to say, he clearly believes that there is a chance that Doherty could leave the club this summer.

Would you be disappointed if Wolves sold Matt Doherty this summer?

The transfer link with Tottenham Hotspur which Evans referred to was from January last year when it was stated that the London club was ‘monitoring developments’ regarding his contract with the Old Gold (per The Mirror).

It was stated at the time that the defender was in ‘no rush to leave Molineux‘ and the following month he signed a new deal with Wolves until 2023 (per BBC).

Furthermore, the wing-back was Wolves’ fifth-best performer in the league last season (per WhoScored), so, that may suggest that the Old Gold would be better off keeping hold of Doherty.
