On the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on the 3-0 friendly win against Ipswich Town, and sharing his thoughts on some of the transfer business that could still be done by the North London club this summer.

One topic of discussion on the recent video was Spurs winger Jack Clarke. The youngster was signed from Leeds United last summer for an initial fee of £8.5 million (per Sky Sports), but endured a torrid 2019/20 season on loan with both Leeds and QPR in the Championship, making just seven substitute appearances in the league across both loan spells (per WhoScored).

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Despite this, the journalist seems excited about his future with the Lilywhites and spoke highly of his performance against Ipswich Town at the weekend, saying:

“Jack Clarke, who I thought had a really impressive 45 minutes. I honestly wouldn’t be stunned, as a homegrown player, whether he’s really announced himself a little bit to [Jose] Mourinho there. Again, I know we have to play it down slightly with the fact that the opposition [weren’t of high quality] and all of this but what I think impressed me was he was confident, which he really shouldn’t be after two disastrous loan spells at Leeds and QPR where he didn’t get many minutes. Clearly Mourinho has been working with him, boosting him. So, yeah, keep an eye on Jack Clarke.”

TIF Thoughts…

Despite his disappointing season on loan with both Leeds and QPR, Gold certainly seems to think that if Clarke can continue to impress Mourinho during pre-season then he could be set for a first-team role during the 2020/21 campaign.

As the journalist suggests, he will contribute towards Spurs’ homegrown quota and with the Lilywhites set to take part in the Europa League, which will no doubt lead to a congested fixture list, then perhaps we will see the 19-year-old make his first-team debut for Spurs next season.
