Fitzsimons spent some time talking about Brewster, who scored Liverpool’s third goal in their 3-0 pre-season win over VfB Stuttgart at the weekend and mentioned that he believes the forward could stay at Anfield for the 2020/21 campaign.

He said: “Right now, when he’s got bags of confidence, he’s coming off a really successful loan spell and we’re in such a great position that we’re in I think now is the best time for him maybe to stay here and I’m confident he can get games but as you said I would like a look at it but we’ll see if that happens in the next few weeks.”

As Fitzsimons mentioned in the podcast, Brewster recently enjoyed a loan spell at Championship side Swansea City that began back in the January transfer window.

During his time at the Welsh club, the 20-year-old managed to score an impressive 11 goals in 22 appearances before returning to Liverpool at the end of July.

TIF Thoughts…

It’s nice to hear that Fitzsimons has the confidence and belief in Brewster that he could be a regular player in Jurgen Klopp’s squad for next season.

However, if Brewster does remain at Liverpool next season, and isn’t sent away on loan again, he will have to compete with Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi for the centre-forward position in the team.

Competing with Firmino, in particular, could prove to be a tough challenge for Brewster next season because the Brazilian managed to score 12 goals and provide 13 assists in 52 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions throughout the 2019/20 season.
