On the latest episode of the Extra Inch podcast, Chris Miller, Nathan Clark and Bardi have been reviewing Tottenham Hotspur’s 2019/20 campaign and looking ahead to some of the transfer business that the Lilywhites could do ahead of next season.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled ‘End of Season Review (Part 1)‘, was Brentford striker Ollie Watkins.

The former Exeter City man was superb for the Bees in the most recent Championship season, contributing 26 goals and three assists in 49 appearances, which saw him average an impressive 7.26 rating (per WhoScored).

Following Thomas Frank’s side’s defeat in the Championship play-off final, BBC have suggested that the 24-year-old would be available for £18 million, and it seems as if Miller feels he would be the perfect addition to Jose Mourinho’s Spurs squad.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what he had to say about the English forward on the podcast:

“The BBC and The Athletic have both reported that he has an £18 million release clause – that’s not a lot of money. If we’re talking about [Callum] Wilson for £10 million, then an extra £8 million for a player who’s four or five years younger – to me, that seems Levy-friendly.

“I think Watkins has a higher ceiling than Wilson and I think the added versatility really helps because you could imagine him playing left or right-wing, in the Lucas or [Heung-min] Son role in the Mourinho team. So I find that a really attractive proposition.”

TIF Thoughts…

Miller certainly seems to think that Watkins would be a better option for Spurs than Callum Wilson, who has been linked with a move to the Lilywhites in recent weeks, following Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship.

Would you like to see Spurs make a move for Watkins?

Watkins’ performances in the Championship last season certainly suggest that he is ready for a move to the top-flight, and perhaps he would prove to be an excellent back-up to Harry Kane, and could even fill in for the 27-year-old in Spurs’ Europa League campaign, which could go some way towards ensuring that the England captain doesn’t suffer another long-term injury.

It will be interesting to see whether Spurs do attempt to sign the 24-year-old this summer, and where he would fit into Mourinho’s side should he make the move to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
