On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Jamie Brown and Jason McGovern have been reviewing Tottenham Hotspur’s 2019/20 campaign, with a focus on key results across the season, the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and appointment of Jose Mourinho, as well as the best and worst performers for the Lilywhites.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘2019/20 Season Review & Awards‘, was Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The Frenchman has struggled in his debut season with the Lilywhites; with fitness and injury issues meaning that he managed to complete 90 minutes on just three occasions in the Premier League all season.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Considering he was signed for a club-record fee last summer, it is no surprise to hear Brown naming the former Lyon man as one of the biggest disappointments of the 2019/20 season on the podcast:

“It was such an exciting signing when Tanguy Ndombele came in, I think that was really a big start for us. It was obviously fairly early on in the window when we managed to get him in, and it was kind of a real sign of what’s to come in the rest of this window.

“It felt as though we’d found the perfect replacement for Mousa Dembele, of course, [a] very unique player, but Tanguy Ndombele, in terms of how strong he was on the ball, all the qualities he showed, he showed that he can be a person that could come in and replace that really important piece of the jigsaw that we lost, but that’s been a big issue for us in terms of, we needed that refresh. We got players in, but none of them came and made an impact, and Tanguy Ndombele at £60 million was a huge disappointment.”

TIF Thoughts…

Ndombele’s first season with Spurs certainly hasn’t gone to plan, and the worry may be for some Spurs fans that the North London club decides to cut their losses on the 23-year-old and sell him this summer, with Inter the latest team to register a serious interest.

However, other reports have suggested that Spurs are not willing to give up on him, so hopefully next season we will see a lot more of what the midfielder is truly about.
