Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest news concerning their current club owner Mike Ashley.
This comes after Newcastle news Twitter account @NUFC360 shared a post on its page relaying news originally published in an article from The Telegraph.
The article claims that Ashley is desperate to save the collapsed Saudi deal to take over the club, but PIF would now only consider resuming talks if the Premier League can provide written assurances that it would accept the deal.
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Newcastle fans, who were quick to share their thoughts on this update.
Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans responding to the post:
Ashley remains desperate to revive the deal, but PIF would now consider returning to talks only in the unlikely event that the league provides written assurances that it was finally ready to let the deal go through. #nufc https://t.co/g1GZ7wtsaA

Doesn’t sound promising.

Back in July, it was revealed by Sky Sports that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and Reuben Brothers had withdrawn their interest in replacing Mike Ashley as Newcastle’s owners in their £300m deal to take over the club. In a released statement, they revealed that the ‘prolonged process under the current circumstances coupled with global uncertainty has rendered the potential investment no longer commercially viable’.
Unless he takes legal action this is dead in the water

Now that it has been reported that Ashley is still willing to get this deal done and that PIF would only be interested in returning if they get their positive assurances from the Premier League, this update sparked a big reaction on Twitter, with many Newcastle fans sharing their thoughts on the issue.
So basically the PIF have no fight to get this deal done. Just walk away from corruption? Something not right here.

Said this many times but you don’t agree to a £300 million deal and hand over a £17 million deposit without being given assurances that it will go ahead. The whole thing stinks of corruption and the premier league being swayed by there close partners… #NUFC

Do you believe Ashley is desperate for the takeover to be revived?
Yes
No
‘Unlikely event’ surely that should just be ‘event’. Its either going to happen or it isn’t but at this point it seems as likely as not.

Despite Ashley’s reported eagerness to revive the deal, it appears that these Newcastle fans are just not expecting the takeover to be resurrected anytime soon.
