Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein provided an update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger, Jadon Sancho.

Since moving to Dortmund from Manchester City in what was a £7.05 million deal back in 2017, the 20-year-old has gone on to establish himself as one of the most exciting young footballers in the game at present, scoring 34 goals and providing a remarkable 43 assists over his 99 appearances for Dortmund.

As a result of his remarkable rise and obvious potential, there have been a number of reports linking the England international with a move away from the German side this summer, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United all mentioned as a potential destination for the £105.3 million-rated winger.

However, it appears that United are now the front runners for the 20-year-old, with the club being in talks with Dortmund regarding a move for the player.

Ornstein provided an update on the current situation surrounding the club’s proposed move for Sancho.

He said: “We did report that there was no agreement between the two clubs, and nothing had been finalised between Manchester United and Jadon Sancho on personal terms.

“There are all sorts of other things that need to be factored into a transfer of this magnitude – agents’ fees and much more besides – that mean that these aren’t quick processes. Dortmund had set an internal deadline of Monday 10th August that became public; Manchester United always saw that as artificial.

“Then you will have seen the news just at the start of this week, with the Dortmund sporting director, Michael Zorc, coming out and saying that Sancho will be a Borussia Dortmund player next season, that’s final.

“Despite what’s said in public, things do materialise further down the line. I’m not saying they will, but we’ve seen it before. So, we’ve got a transfer window that’s open until October, the Premier League restarts on September 12th, the Bundesliga on September 18th, so there is quite a lot of time.

“We don’t know how Sancho feels about this situation. Dortmund are in a strong position contractually. I don’t think Jadon Sancho is the type to rock the boat unless he was desperate to move, and I’ve not had an indication that he is desperate to move. He’s a highly professional footballer, and he’s gone on their pre-season training camp.

“If a deal can’t be struck, I’m sure he will get on playing for Dortmund. Manchester United will hope that there can be some movement on this because he is their top target.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, according to Ornstein, at present, there is not a great deal of movement on the Sancho to United front.

However, the fact that the journalist has ‘not had an indication that he is desperate to move’ may not sit too well with fans of Manchester United, as it could be a cause to think that the 20-year-old is not necessarily overly keen on a move to their club.
